Working with dots Pilot 2

Configure dots Pilot 2 to work with a Macintosh
(up to Mac OS 9.x)

If you have performed the installation on a Windows NT 4.0 server or Windows 2000 server and activated the dots Pilot 2 Printer in the network, the dots Pilot 2 is now also offered for selection on the Macintosh if Macintosh printer services have been installed and are running. For Windows NT 4.0, this is a print server for Macintosh and for Windows 2000, it is the SFM server. Details on using these services can be found in the Windows documentation.

How to activate your dots Pilot 2 printer in Windows:

  • Open the Printers window by clicking START | SETTINGS | PRINTERS.
  • Click the right mouse button on the symbol for the dots Pilot 2 printer and then SHARE….
  • Click ACTIVATE AS: then enter the correct name as the activation name.
  • Click OK.

Copying the PPD into the System Folder

To send PostScript files from a Macintosh to dots Pilot 2 or to save them for importing, you must make the PPDs from dots Pilot 2 available to the printer driver. You can find the PPD on the dots Pilot 2 CD or in the installation folder of dots Pilot 2, for example, C:\Programme\dots Pilot2\Mac\pilot2.ppd.

Here is how to make the printer description file available for Macintosh:

  • Insert the dots Pilot 2 CD into your CD-ROM drive and open the MAC folder.
  • On your Macintosh, open SYSTEM FOLDER | SYSTEM EXTENSIONS | PRINTER DESCRIPTIONS.
  • Copy PILOT2.PPD from the CD into PRINTER DESCRIPTIONS.

Now you can select dots Pilot 2 Printer at the Macintosh.

If you want to save PostScript files to the hard drive, you should also use the dots Pilot 2 PPD. To do this, use the dots Pilot 2 PPD with the printer you usually utilize for printing.

Make sure that when you're saving PostScript files that the page layout has been set correctly and that all fonts have been included.
